Trader Joe’s Kimbap Sold Out After A TikTok Video Goes Viral

Trader Joe’s Launched Korean Kimbap

Trader Joe’s, a grocery store chain with more than 500 stores across the U.S., launched a frozen kimbap product early last month that sold out in less than a month in all of its stores. Additional stock is expected to arrive in November 2023.

TikTok Viral Was a Good Part

According to NBC, TikTok was a big part of how the kimbap went viral.

Sera Ahn, 27, a Korean-American food blogger from Orange County, posted a video on TikTok on August 16 of her mother heating up the kimbap and eating it with her, which has since been viewed more than 11 million times.

“When I was 5 years old, my mom packed kimbap for my school lunch, and I used to get teased by the other kids. The popularity of kimbap in the U.S. now shows how far Korean culture has come in terms of being accepted and consumed by others.” Sera said this during an interview with NBC.
