Why Is South Korea One Of The Most Depressed Countries In The World?

Recently, A YouTube Video By Well-known Suthor Mark Manson Has Been Making Waves In South Korea

Mark Manson, an American author and YouTuber who has written several bestsellers, including “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck”, has called South Korea “the world’s most depressing country.”

Citing rising rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide, Mark Manson said that South Korea represents the worst sides of Confucian culture and capitalism.

He added that South Korea sadly seems to have retained the most negative aspects of Confucianism—shame and judgment of others—while abandoning the closeness of family and society, and has adopted the worst of capitalism—a commitment to flamboyant materialism—while ignoring the ability to express oneself.

He also pinpointed that in the Korean work culture, where performance is paramount, people lack autonomy and control over their own choices.

However, Mark Manson also noted that Korea has a resilience that is rarely seen in the world.
