World Population to Reach 8 Billion this year, UN Says

According to the UN’s World Population Prospects 2022 report, November 2022 is predicted to be the time that the global population reaches 8 billion. Below are some of the points we thought interesting and summarized from the report.

  • The slowest population growth rate since the 1950s — 2/3 of the global population lives in a country or area where lifetime fertility is below 2.1 births per woman
  • The population growth focused on 8 countries — The global population up to 2050 will be concentrated in 8 countries : the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and the United Republic of Tanzania.
  • The population of India will surpass China as the world’s most populous country in 2023.
  • The average global longevity would be around 77.2 years in 2050.
